Si tienes 2000 horas libres...

Recientemente el NYTimes publicó su lista de las 1,000 mejores películas de todos los tiempos, en orden alfabético para que no haya pleitos. Esta, obviamente, no es LA lista de las mejores películas y, siendo gringa, tiene una clara mayoría de películas gringas. Sin embargo, estoy seguro de que todas estas valen la pena (con la posible excepción de Unforgiven, para mi gusto la peor película en haber ganado un Oscar en los últimos 20 años) Les paso la liga y transcribo (es un decir, es copy-paste) la lista aquí.

Vale la pena mencionar las 3 películas mexicanas que aparecen: Amores Perros, Como agua para chocolate e Y tu mamá también. También que está Rushmore, la primera de Freddie, una de Zombis, Robocop, Star Wars y una de Indiana Jones, así como el clásico de clásicos "Who framed Roger Rabbit?", así que no esperen Fellini.

Revisando la lista, yo he visto 150 de estas películas, un mísero 15%. ¿cuántas han visto ustedes?

Hay marcha en Nueva York

Definitivamente marchar es lo de hoy, si no has ido a una marcha en el último mes, no estás "in". Las marchas se dan de todos colores y sabores y por casi cualquier causa, legítima o ilegítima.

Las marchas de las que tengo conocimiento, sus causas y resultados son los siguientes:

  • Marcha a favor de los immigrantes
  • Lugar: Varias ciudades de EEUU, principalmente Los Ángeles y Nueva York.
  • Participantes: >1 millón de varias etnicidades, principalmente latinos, de los cuáles la mayoría son mexicanos.
  • Propósito: Apoyar una reforma migratoria comprensiva que incluya un programa de trabajadores invitados. La famosa "whole enchilada" de Fox. Además busca presionar al congreso a repeler la ley Sensebrenner, que incluiría un muro en la frontera.
  • Posible resultado: Aunque el comité jurídico del Senado aprobó la ley "whole enchilada" y parece haber suficientes senadores y congresistas para ganar, no habría suficiente para contrarrestar un "filibuster", por lo que el resultado está en el aire.

  • Marcha para la renuncia del primer ministro
  • Lugar: Bangkok, Tailandia.
  • Participantes:Aprox. 50,000, principalmente gente urbana de clase media.
  • Propósito: Solicitar la renuncia de Thaksin Shinawatra, primer ministro tailandés. Thaksin es un empresario convertido en primer ministro populista que, después de mucha presión, vendió sus empresas (a las que se le acusaba de ayudar desde su puesto). El último escándalo fue que no se pagaron impuestos de la venta de estas empresas al gobierno de Singapur, venta que se dió por 1900 millones de dólares.
  • Resultado: El 4 de abril, Thaksin anunción su renuncia (en mi opinión muy valientemente) diciendo que nunca había esperado ser un divisor de su gente y que creía que esto era en el mejor interés de todos. Esto lo anunció después de una larga reunión con el rey tailandés.

  • Marcha para protestar los resultados electorales en Bielorrusia.
  • Lugar: Minsk, Bielorrusia.
  • Participantes: Aprox. 10,000
  • Propósito: Solicitar la dimisión del recientemente re-electo Aleksander Lukashenko, llamado el último dictador de Europa. Lukashenko ganó su tercer periodo de 5 años al frente del joven país ex-soviético. Es apenas su segundo presidente, sucediendo a su padre. Tanto la Unión Europea como EEUU han protestado los resultados por irregulares (según fuentes oficiales, ganó la elección con 82% del voto). Rusia, ejerciendo su influencia en la región, los ha dado como válidos y ha llamado a Lukashenko un "héroe" (suena familiar, ¿no?)
  • Resultado: Cerca de 1,000 arrestados. Represión general, golpes y gas lacrimógeno. No parece que se vayan a cambiar los resultados.

  • Marcha contra la nueva ley de empleo en Francia
  • Lugar: París, Francia.
  • Participantes: >1 millón en París, aprox. 3 millones en todo el país, principalmente estudiantes y trabajadores sindicalizados.
  • Propósito: Recientemente el primer ministro francés, Dominique de Villepin, promulgó una ley que facilita el despido de los trabajadores menores a 26 años, con el propósito de reducir el alto desempleo de los jóvenes en Francia (~26%) La idea es que si se reduce la burocracia, las empresas contratarán más libremente, ya que actualmente muchos trabajos traen contratos de por vida y, por lo mismo, las empresas son más reticentes a contratar.
  • Posible resultado: Las protestas siguen y no parece haber una tregua en el futuro cercano. La ley tiene un futuro incierto, aunque probablemente al final se implemente una versión moderada. El futuro como presidente de Dominique de Villepin también es incierto.

  • Marcha para exigir la renuncia del gobernador de Puebla, México.
  • Lugar: Puebla, Puebla.
  • Participantes: ~50,000 en la primera y ~10,000 en la segunda, de todos los estratos sociales de la sociedad poblana.
  • Propósito: Exigir la renuncia de Mario Marín, gobernador del estado de Puebla, luego de que unas grabaciones lo expusieran en tráfico de influencias a favor de Kamel Nacif, empresario poblano y en contra de Lydia Cacho, periodista que publicó un libro (los demonios del Edén) en el que acusaba a Nacif de encubrir una red de pederastía.
  • Posible resultado: Es poco probable que Marín renuncie a la gubernatura o que se le obligue a renunciar. En una sistema político tan poco representativo como el nuestro, la clase política no tiene el incentivo para ir tras uno de los suyos, pues saben que después podrían estar ellos en la mira del pueblo. La apuesta del gobierno será esperar que la gente se canse. Sin embargo, esto puede marcar el fin de la gubernatura del PRI en un estado caracterizado por ser un bastión suyo y que además es el 5to estado más poblado del país.

Sobre esta última marcha, yo estuve ahí (por lo tanto, yo estoy "in"). Como poblano exiliado en Monterrey desde hace años, el surgimiento de este tema me preocupa mucho. Cuando coincidió que estuve ahí (en un maravilloso fin de semana) y era la marcha, tuve que ir. Nunca antes había estado en una marcha (soy un burgués, hay que admitirlo) así que ir representaba beneficios antropológicos, turísticos, ciudadanos y sentimentales. Mi experiencia, aunque en general muy positiva, fue mixta. Llegando al zócalo me dio mucho gusto ver a tanta gente poblana reunida en un solo lugar. Para los que no conocen Puebla, es una ciudad bellísima, pero también es la capital internacional de la apatía. Movilizar a 10,000 poblanos es un logro que yo no pensé que fuera posible hacer, sobre todo tomando en cuenta que nadie de ahí era acarreado, sino que había familias, jóvenes, ancianos, taxistas, profesionistas, estudiantes, fresas, nacos y todo el espectro de una sociedad compleja unidos con el único propósito de denunciar una clara injusticia. Justo estaba meditando esto cuando empezaron los discursos...

No todos estuvieron mal, de hecho había algunos que eran muy buenos oradores, de esos que te ponen la carne de gallina, y ver a tanta gente gritando consignas (siempre había querido usar esa palabra, creo que es muy del '68) daba un sentimiento de unidad y hermandad con todos los asistentes. Sin embargo, de repente se subió una pareja de profesores universitarios y proclamó que ellos habían decidido irse a vivir a una vecindad para estrechar los vínculos de amor fraterno con los pobres y necesitados de la ciudad. ¿? "Eso está muy bien", pensé, "pero realmente no tiene mucho que ver con destituir a un gobernador o desmantelar una red de pederastía" Poco después, otro de los oradores empezó a hablar de la lucha sindical. De entre la propaganda que me repartieron, mezclado con los papelitos que decían "Marín debe renunciar" y "Marín teibolero (sic) y traidor", también había uno de apoyo a López Obrador y otro de una tienda especializada en "Lubricantes, retardadores, películas, juguetes y disfraces" que creo que tampoco tenía mucho que ver con Marín. De repente, no podía dejar de pensar que a muchos de los que estaban ahí les importaba poco Lydia Cacho, o la red de pederastía, o Kamel Nacif. Sé que sonaré bastante ingenuo, pero me sorprendió que cada quién tenía su agenda oculta y que utilizaban la plataforma para algo más.

Además, pensándolo un poco, ¿qué se puede lograr en una marchar en México? Recuerdo claramente la marcha que se hizo en el DF para protestar en contra de la inseguridad, y que el entonces jefe de gobierno descalificó como una parte más del complot en su contra. Esa vez eran cerca de 1 millón de personas marchando, según recuerdo, y con muy pocos intereses externos involucrados. Mi hermano, que estuvo ahí, me contó que un grupo acompañado de una botarga del Dr. Simi trató de unirse a la marcha, pero que la gente que estaba ahí los corrió casi a golpes (incluso empezaron a gritar "Quemen el Dr. Simi"), para no manchar a la sociedad civil. Si una marcha de esa tamaño y esa pureza puede ser minimizada tan fácilmente, ¿a quién le importan 10,000 o 50,000 poblanos? La respuesta es que las marchas importan porque, para bien o para mal, demuestran la voluntad de la gente, y en su caso extremo pueden paralizar una ciudad. Juntar a 50,000 personas en una ciudad de más de 2 millones puede parecer poco, pero no es un tema de representatividad sino de inercia. Lo más fácil es quedarse sentado, pero salir a marchar requiere acción. Salir a gritar consignas que pueden tal vez ser estúpidas requiere moverse, salir de nuestra zona de comfort y perder un poco la cara. Además en nuestro país es, tristemente, la única forma de expresar desacuerdo, ya que las urnas electorales están dominadas por el partidismo (más sobre esto en otra entrada). Al final, marchamos porque no podemos hacer otra cosa, porque tal vez si nos juntamos varios a gritar, alguien nos escuche.

Noticia del día: En Baluchistán, Pakistán encontraron taladros de dentista de 9,000 años de antigüedad, que aparentemente podían perforar un diente en menos de un minuto. Dos comentarios: El primero, ¿Por qué entonces le toma a un dentista actual media hora tapar una simple caries? El segundo, gracias a Dios por la anestesia.
